Fishidy is a map-based social platform for anglers that uses a freemium-to-premium model. As an early-stage startup, the marketing team needed to test and validate multiple acquisition channels, scale link-building and influencer outreach, and do all of this with limited time and resources while measuring customer acquisition cost against existing paid search efforts.
They built a staged outreach funnel, defined roles (researcher, analyst, strategic), and used Basecamp and BuzzStream to manage prospecting, outreach templates, phone follow-ups and partnerships with local writers and influencers. The program significantly moved the needle: referral traffic to Fishidy.com rose 157% year-over-year, blog-driven traffic increased ~660%, social referrals surged (Twitter +2,600%, Facebook +292%), organic blog traffic grew ~687%, and they acquired 60+ resource links—validating lower CAC for referral and influencer channels versus paid search.
