SoftNAS Helps Atypon Systems Migrate to the Amazon Cloud

Atypon Systems is a SaaS ePublishing provider that hosts millions of articles and hundreds of millions of files for scientific publishers. Needing a fully featured, NFS-based managed storage solution in AWS with reliability, consistent uptime and high performance, Atypon tried S3, Gluster FS and a home‑built NFS server but found each solution limited in speed, scalability or features such as writable snapshots and seamless capacity expansion.

In 2013 Atypon implemented SoftNAS, which met their functionality requirements and—working closely with Atypon and AWS—resolved initial scalability and performance issues without data loss. SoftNAS provided enterprise NAS features (snapshots, RAID/caching, SnapReplicate block replication) and responsive support, enabling a reliable cloud-based DR solution and cloud operations that mirror Atypon’s on‑site environment.
