A Buurst Case Study
US Signal, a Midwest network and cloud-hosting provider with eight data centers and 14,000+ miles of lit fiber, needed a private hosted S3 object storage solution that also supported CIFS/NFS. Their in‑house OpenStack/CEPH approach was limited to three‑way replication and required significant development effort; they wanted S3 compatibility to enable erasure coding and sought a partner to deliver a virtual appliance they could integrate quickly.
SoftNAS Cloud NAS met those needs, providing S3‑compliant object storage with CIFS/NFS, straightforward deployment, and strong support for migration from over 40 legacy appliances. The SoftNAS solution enabled more efficient data protection and a consumption-based OPEX model, simplified management for hundreds of terabytes (130+ TB planned migration), and delivered service‑provider reliability with roughly 80% cost savings.
