Large Operator of Rural Lifestyle Stores, a national retailer with 1,700 stores and over 14,000 benefits-eligible employees, faced rising health benefit costs and employee demand for more affordable coverage. The company worked with Businessolver, using the Benefitsolver platform and Businessolver’s MyChoiceSM Recommendation Engine, to shift away from traditional plans toward consumer-directed, high-deductible health plans (HDHPs) paired with health savings accounts (HSAs).

Businessolver supported a three-year phased rollout of silver, bronze and gold HDHPs, company-seeded HSAs, and an integrated communications program with online tools and personalized plan recommendations. The vendor’s platform made choices clear during enrollment and helped drive adoption: HDHP uptake rose to 24% in year one (versus an expected 10%), and HSA participation grew from 10% to 32% of eligible employees.
