Case Study: The Planetary Society modernizes its brand and boosts engagement with The Bureau Of Small Projects

A The Bureau Of Small Projects Case Study

The Planetary Society launches a modernized brand system with The Bureau Of Small Projects

The Planetary Society, a space science and advocacy nonprofit led by Bill Nye, partnered with The Bureau Of Small Projects to modernize its legacy brand, which was originally created by Carl Sagan. The challenge was to create a more legible visual identity, clarify how the organization differs from giants like NASA and SpaceX, and develop a stronger strategy for growing membership and public engagement.

The Bureau Of Small Projects delivered a comprehensive solution including brand strategy, messaging, and a modernized logo that preserved Sagan's original Saturn-inspired "P." The new "Take Your Place in Space" tagline encapsulated the Society's unique value proposition. The resulting brand system, complete with guidelines, was designed to strengthen recognition, consistency, and ultimately drive membership growth and audience engagement for the nonprofit.
