Rapidly Triage Performance Issues to Deliver a Real-time Gaming Experience

Subspace, a provider of ultra-low-latency infrastructure for online gaming, needed to keep its real-time platform as fast and reliable as possible while improving observability and simplifying Kubernetes adoption. To meet those goals, the company looked for a service mesh that would not add meaningful overhead to its latency-sensitive environment.

Subspace implemented Buoyant’s Linkerd service mesh to gain better visibility into service performance and speed up troubleshooting. According to the case study, Linkerd enabled faster detection and correction of performance issues, provided a net positive operational impact, and was lightweight enough that its added latency was outweighed by the latency it helped reduce. Subspace also reported that Linkerd was functional in under two hours and easier to adopt than Istio.
