Nordstrom - Customer Case Study

Nordstrom turned to **Buoyant** as it worked to scale its global ecommerce infrastructure during the pandemic while protecting customer PPI across Kubernetes-based microservices. With online traffic and secure service-to-service communication becoming business-critical, the retailer needed a scalable way to manage high-volume transactions, maintain visibility, and keep sensitive data safe without adding operational burden.

**Buoyant’s Linkerd service mesh** provided Nordstrom with automatic in-cluster TLS, strong identity, and efficient routing to secure microservice communications with relatively low CPU and memory usage. The team chose Linkerd over heavier alternatives like Istio, and reported that it gave developers “smooth sailing” by reducing infrastructure concerns and letting them focus on business challenges; Nordstrom said it was very happy with the decision.
