How Linkerd improved Salt's platform efficiency, reliability, performance within one week

Salt Security, a cybersecurity vendor protecting APIs across the full lifecycle, needed a way to support its rapidly growing microservices platform on Kubernetes as it moved to gRPC. The team also needed reliable load balancing for gRPC traffic, plus stronger backward compatibility, without risking downtime for a platform that ingests massive volumes of customer API traffic.

Buoyant’s Linkerd service mesh solved the gRPC load-balancing challenge and added mTLS, retries, visibility, and easier operations across Salt Security’s multi-cloud Kubernetes environment. Within a week, Salt Security saw improved efficiency, reliability, and performance, including the ability to scale traffic nearly 10x without issues, while also catching excessive service calls earlier and reducing wasteful resource use.
