University Hospitals, led in part by Andrew Laytin (Team Lead of Infrastructure Applications Development and SQL DBA), needed a reliable way to manage deployments across many small- to medium-sized applications and multiple environments. They inherited BuildMaster as their deployment automation tool and faced the usual learning curve for a powerful platform, plus the challenge of achieving consistent, repeatable releases from integration through test and production.

BuildMaster was implemented as the single deployment pipeline: teams create deployment plans, pull from Team Foundation Services, build artifacts, run required scripts, and stop/deploy/start IIS application pools through BuildMaster. As a result, University Hospitals made BuildMaster the required deployment path, increased reuse of deployment plans across environments, reduced deployment issues, and realized immediate ROI and faster, more consistent releases—with responsive BuildMaster support helping accelerate adoption.
