How PagerDuty leverages Buildkite for 20% faster incident resolution

PagerDuty, the digital operations management company, needed a better way to handle CI/CD as its engineering teams grew and deployment needs became more complex. Its existing mix of self-hosted GoCD and manual shell script/Makefile deployments was hard to maintain, inconsistent, and slow, prompting a search for a more standardized solution. PagerDuty evaluated more than 50 vendors before narrowing the field to Buildkite, Jenkins with CloudBees support, and an updated GoCD.

PagerDuty implemented Buildkite as a hybrid, cloud-managed CI/CD platform with locally run agents and secrets kept in its own infrastructure. With Buildkite, PagerDuty moved all deployment pipelines onto the platform, and 99% of production builds now pass through Buildkite. The result was faster service bootstrapping, quicker path from blank repo to production, and 20% faster incident resolution, helping PagerDuty accelerate delivery while reducing operational overhead.
