A Building Engines Case Study
Royal London Asset Management, the UK’s largest mutual life, pensions, and investment company, needed to improve HVAC operations and energy efficiency at a 125,000-square-foot commercial office building in Birmingham while supporting its portfolio decarbonisation goals. The team worked with JLL’s property management group and used Hank from Building Engines to address excessive energy use, maintenance burden, and comfort-control issues caused by BMS schedules and manual overrides.
Building Engines implemented Hank to optimize equipment scheduling, control comfort by zone group, reduce overrides, and improve air handling unit operation, while also adding alarms for equipment issues. The results included a record 708% ROI, £148,000 in guaranteed annual savings, 21% total energy savings, 59% HVAC energy savings, and an expected reduction of more than 150,000 kWh and 500 metric tons of carbon emissions each year.
