Children’s National Hospital’s Celiac Disease Program needed a better way to share extensive gluten-free education resources with newly diagnosed patients and their families. Instead of relying on bulky binders, PDFs, and scattered handouts, the team wanted a single, easy-to-access mobile experience that could handle multimedia content, custom pages, and event registration. They partnered with Buildfire, using its app builder and professional services team to bring the idea to life.

Buildfire helped Children’s National launch a custom app with videos, podcasts, event info, contact options, and interactive flashcard decks for safe, unsafe, and questionable ingredients. The app has surpassed 20,000 downloads, become the first touchpoint for many families, and expanded the program’s reach as far as Uganda. Buildfire also enabled future growth, including plans to license the app to other hospitals and build a second app for schools.
