Morrison Homes, a 45+ year Calgary home builder with about 100 staff that completed 590 homes in 2007, was losing time and money to a paper-based variance purchase order (VPO) process. Site supers hand-wrote multi-part forms, staff faxed and rekeyed information, and the company spent about 19 minutes processing each VPO — roughly 5,300 VPOs in 2007 — creating high labor, paper and error costs.
