Tim O’Brien Homes, a Milwaukee-based builder founded in 2007 that produces ~3,000 sq. ft. homes (150 starts in 2015, $280–$320K, $20–$60K options), runs a very lean operation with most construction subcontracted. Rapid growth strained communications with roughly 60 trades and superintendents: lot-specific changes, schedule shifts, paper invoices and variance purchase orders created costly errors and nonstop calls that pulled staff away from core sales and building responsibilities.
