Logan Homes, a North Carolina coastal builder with more than 25 years in business and about 150 home starts planned for 2011, faced extreme product and pricing complexity — 78 base plans and roughly 275,000 possible option combinations, with pricing that varied by community — while relying on an inaccurate 2D paper drafting process. The company recognized it needed to move to 3D BIM to gain control over plan sets, options and lot-specific pricing.

Logan engaged CG Visions and implemented BIMVertex with the Pipeline translator to feed detailed BIM data into BuilderMT’s WMS (integrated with Sales Simplicity and Sage Timberline). The integration produced precise takeoffs, enabled lot-specific cost and price analysis so profit for each home can be known before construction, and allowed Logan to adjust option pricing to protect its 10–12% margin while eliminating the proliferation of plan sets and confusing option scenarios.
