A Buffalo Computer Graphics Case Study
Bruce Power, a major nuclear power plant operator, sought to modernize its emergency communications and improve data accuracy for internal teams and external authorities like the Ontario Fire Marshal and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. Their challenge was replacing an outdated, error-prone process that relied on manually faxing critical plant data. They engaged vendor Buffalo Computer Graphics, with a recommendation from FutureShield, to implement its DisasterLAN (DLAN) incident management system.
Buffalo Computer Graphics provided a web-based DLAN system with custom digital forms for data collection, which was accessible on handheld devices and utilized store-and-forward technology for use during connectivity outages. This solution replaced the fax machines, streamlined data sharing, and provided real-time dashboards for enhanced situational awareness. The system was successfully validated in the Huron Resolve exercise, where users found it intuitive and effective. The implementation by Buffalo Computer Graphics significantly improved operational efficiency, decision-making, and safety for Bruce Power.
