Regional sporting goods retailer enhances the customer experience and improves productivity with custom POS application

Scheels, a 26‑store regional sporting goods retailer known for its in‑store Gramma Ginna’s Restaurant and Fudge Shop, faced slow lines and extra associate training because its legacy Oracle Point of Sale (ORPOS) interface wasn’t suited to quick‑service deli and coffee operations. Scheels engaged BTM Global (development and implementation services, working with ORPOS v13.4) to address the unique needs of its restaurant and café environments without adding a separate quick‑service POS system.

BTM Global built a custom touch‑screen POS interface that leverages the existing ORPOS framework and item database, using nested category menus, combo options, contextual buttons and features like on‑screen receipts and special discount support. The unified solution lets retail and deli cashiers run transactions from a single ORPOS application, improving associate productivity, speeding order processing, reducing training friction, and avoiding the cost and complexity of two systems — a change Scheels says associates “love.”
