Case Study: Scotiabank updates its human rights strategy with BSR

A BSR Case Study

Scotiabank refreshes human rights strategy with BSR through 10 workshops

Scotiabank, a major global financial services provider, sought to update its human rights strategy to meet growing regulatory pressures and stakeholder expectations. The bank partnered with vendor BSR to refresh its Human Rights Assessment, validate its most salient human rights issues, and develop a proactive strategy aligned with the UN Guiding Principles.

BSR conducted a comprehensive Human Rights Assessment, which included stakeholder interviews and a proprietary salience analysis, to identify Scotiabank's 13 most critical human rights issues. BSR then facilitated workshops to develop a refreshed strategy and an updated Human Rights Statement. The project resulted in a deeper internal understanding of human rights risks, clearer ownership of these issues across departments, and a stronger public commitment from Scotiabank.
