A BSI Case Study
BSI worked with Patient Handling, a confidential healthcare client, to address a sharp rise in patient handling injuries in an intensive care unit. The unit’s incident rate had climbed to more than 11 injuries per 100 employees, creating morale issues and staffing shortages.
BSI began with a risk assessment and process analysis, observing workflows and interviewing staff from frontline caregivers to hospital leadership. BSI then helped implement a plan that included placing patient mobilization equipment in every room, aligning OR and ICU processes with additional equipment training, and using shift contests to boost engagement. The result was a 100% reduction in patient handling injuries, along with sustained risk-awareness improvements and external awards recognizing the client’s performance.
