Samsung SDI cuts workplace accidents to 0 with BSI

Samsung SDI, a manufacturer of rechargeable batteries and energy storage systems, sought to cement its position as a safety-conscious employer and integrate its management systems more effectively. The company faced the challenge of migrating from BS OHSAS 18001 to the new global ISO 45001 standard while harmonizing it with its existing quality and environmental management systems. To achieve this, Samsung SDI partnered with the vendor BSI.

BSI provided the solution by guiding Samsung SDI to achieve ISO 45001 certification, making it the first company in South Korea to do so. This successful certification was part of a broader strategy to integrate multiple standards into a holistic management system. The results for Samsung SDI included a stronger safety culture, improved operational efficiency, and a enhanced global reputation for safety. Measurable impacts included reducing in-house partner injuries from accidents to zero in 2022 and receiving an A-rating on the Morgan Stanley Capital International ESG score.
