A BSI Case Study

Preview of the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) Case Study

Olympic Venue Reduced Utility Costs by 15% Due to Better Waste Management and Utilisation of Energy

Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA), a world-class sailing and conference venue selected to host the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic sailing events, needed to align with LOCOG’s Sustainable Sourcing Code, strengthen its sustainability credentials, and operate consistently with its One Planet Living principles. To meet these goals and attract more corporate functions and events, WPNSA worked with BSI and used ISO 20121 sustainable event management certification.

BSI helped WPNSA implement ISO 20121 by defining the scope of its sustainability management system, identifying stakeholders and legal requirements, and embedding a framework for continual improvement across its operations. As a result, WPNSA reported around 15% cost savings through better waste management and electricity optimisation, improved compliance and reduced legal risk, enhanced reputation, and stronger market appeal for future conferences and sailing regattas.
