McDonald’s helps protect food supply chains with BSI standards amid 85% rise in food fraud cases

McDonald's, alongside other industry leaders, faced a critical safety gap in protecting its food supply chains from deliberate attacks like malicious contamination, fraud, and cybercrime. Existing protocols were insufficient, so the company partnered with vendor BSI to help develop a new, robust standard to address these evolving threats.

BSI developed a Publicly Available Specification (PAS 96) using the TACCP framework, creating a consensus-based standard to safeguard every element of the food supply chain. This solution allows companies like McDonald's to demonstrate their commitment to food safety, protect their brand reputation, and better manage risks against a backdrop of rising food fraud, which saw an 85% increase in suspected cases across the EU between 2016 and 2019.
