A BSI Case Study
Lerwick Port Authority, the principal commercial port for the Shetland Islands, needed to strengthen its occupational health and safety management and demonstrate a stronger commitment to employees, harbour users, and stakeholders. Working with **BSI**, the authority sought certification to **ISO 45001** as part of its broader management system framework, alongside existing ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications.
**BSI** assessed Lerwick Port Authority’s existing processes and supported its transition to ISO 45001, helping integrate health and safety more fully into day-to-day operations and leadership oversight. The result was certification achieved in under nine months, improved worker engagement and consultation, stronger hazard and risk management, better legal and regulatory compliance, and enhanced confidence, resilience, and reputation.
