A BSI Case Study
Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, needed a way to help health and wellness app developers build products that healthcare professionals and users could trust. With no agreed principles or common quality criteria for app development, the market lacked confidence in whether apps were clinically accurate, usable, and fit for purpose.
BSI worked with Innovate UK to develop PAS 277, a consensus-based set of guidelines and good practice for health and wellness app developers. The standard improves testing and quality assurance for clinical accuracy and usability, helping developers make better apps and giving healthcare professionals clearer reassurance about quality. While the case study does not cite a numeric business impact, BSI’s PAS 277 was positioned to strengthen trust, support wider adoption, and help grow the UK’s digital health sector.
