A BSI Case Study
Byotrol, a specialist developer of residual antimicrobial technologies, needed a credible way to independently measure and substantiate claims of long-lasting antimicrobial efficacy for products used on everyday household surfaces. With no existing European or international standard for this type of testing, the company faced a challenge in meeting Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) requirements and proving real-world performance.
Byotrol worked with BSI to develop PAS 2424, a consensus-based test method for residual antimicrobial efficacy on hard, non-porous surfaces. BSI led a broad steering group and public consultation to create a rigorous, independent standard that reflects real-life conditions. The result helped Byotrol strengthen customer trust, simplify validation of long-lasting claims under the BPR, and accelerate wider adoption of standardized antimicrobial testing in Europe and the United States.
