BSI’s Kitemark for Energy Reduction Verification Helps Local Authority Prove 6% Reduction in Emissions for Buildings and Street Lighting

Warwickshire County Council worked with BSI to improve how it managed energy use across its buildings and street lighting while facing ongoing budget cuts, rising energy costs, and the need to meet government carbon and compliance requirements. The Council needed reliable energy data, proof of savings from efficiency projects, and a stronger energy management system to support its carbon reduction goals.

BSI implemented its Kitemark for Energy Reduction Verification (KM ERV), including site visits, meter-reading checks, and verification of energy reduction measures such as LED lighting and insulation. The result was independent validation of WCC’s carbon management work, stronger data management, improved reputation and PR, and measurable savings, including a 6% reduction in emissions from buildings and street lighting.
