BSI Helps to Reduce World-leading Transport Operator's Energy Consumption by 31%

First Group, a major UK and North American transport operator, needed a consistent way to manage environmental issues, comply with legislation, support continual improvement, and align with its CSR goals. To address this, it worked with BSI to implement ISO 14001 Environmental Management across its UK bus and train businesses.

BSI helped First Group achieve ISO 14001 certification across all 20 UK bus companies and 6 train operating companies. The results included a 31% reduction in energy consumption, a 30% increase in waste recycling, £240k saved through energy reduction initiatives in 2008, and £70k saved through waste minimisation schemes, along with reduced CO₂ emissions and improved staff engagement.
