Afton Chemical Commits to Continual Improvement With Responsible Care Certification

Afton Chemical, a global manufacturer of additives for fuels and lubricants, needed to mitigate risk and create a globally consistent Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) program across its expanding operations. To strengthen its “Vision of Zero” initiative and align sites under common standards, Afton worked with BSI to bring its U.S. facilities into multi-site Responsible Care RC14001 certification and to validate adoption of Responsible Care guiding principles across all sites.

BSI implemented RC14001 certification and continued managing Afton’s ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 9001 certifications across multiple regions. The result was more consistent EHS policies, procedures, and documentation, improved risk identification and process safety awareness, and stronger senior leadership engagement. Afton also expected support for goals such as a 10% reduction in waste and energy intensity, while BSI’s multi-site certification approach helped make the rollout smooth and scalable.
