University Achieves Network and Research Excellence with Brocade

The University of Bern needed a modern, high-performance network to support bandwidth-hungry research programs and a growing population of mobile students using multimedia and online learning tools. With core routers at end of life and research projects (including multiple NCCR programs) pushing capacity limits, the university sought a solution that would deliver immediate performance and a clear upgrade path to 40/100 GbE.

Working with partner BNC, the university deployed Brocade MLXe core routers and Brocade ICX 6610/6430/6450 switches, which increased core and edge bandwidth, simplified management, and reduced infrastructure needs. The new network supported surges in multimedia, mobile and research traffic, offered four times the 100 GbE wire‑speed density and nine times the system capacity of alternatives, and provided a foundation for future 10/40/100 GbE upgrades to improve campus-wide performance and user experience.
