A Brocade Case Study
Shelton State Community College, which serves more than 5,600 students across multiple campuses and distance‑learning sites and aims to grow to 12,000 students, needed a university‑grade network that delivered full line‑rate performance, high availability, support for aggressive virtualization and VoIP plans, easy management, and cost efficiency. The college evaluated Brocade and Cisco and selected a solution that met its strict performance, visibility, and budget criteria.
Shelton State deployed a redundant Brocade foundation—ICX campus switches (with PoE/PoE+ and mixed stacking), VDX data‑center switches, FastIron/SX series switches, and Brocade Network Advisor—across two main data centers and remote sites. The new infrastructure delivered nonstop learning with higher resiliency and application performance, expanded port density at lower cost, instant visibility into Layer‑2 performance, and flexible support for expanded wireless, video and VoIP services.
