A Brocade Case Study
NIKKEI, Japan’s leading business publisher, needed to archive and provide fast access to massive amounts of online and print data across seven domestic and 35 global offices. Each of its three business divisions had built separate Fibre Channel SANs, creating duplicated management, higher hardware costs and complex disaster-recovery planning. The company sought a way to consolidate storage logically—without rewiring, replacing hardware, or disrupting operations—to reduce costs and simplify administration.
NIKKEI deployed Brocade Multiprotocol Routers and SAN switches to create a Logical SAN (LSAN) that interconnects the separate fabrics and centralizes backup storage while keeping primary SANs optimized for each division. The solution reduced management overhead and capital expenses, improved storage utilization, preserved fault isolation for security, and enabled cost-effective long‑distance disaster recovery to a planned Osaka site—delivering faster operations and a strong expected ROI.
