National IX Interconnection Platform, the Nationwide Internet Exchange

CyrusOne, a provider of carrier‑neutral, mission‑critical data centers for Fortune and enterprise customers, created the National IX to give tenants nationwide high‑performance interconnection and extended cloud connectivity. The challenge was to enable customers to exchange massive amounts of data at high speeds across multiple metros while meeting strict uptime, redundancy, and scalability requirements.

CyrusOne implemented Brocade MLX Series routers as the network core, using MPLS/VPLS and redundant fiber/optical rings to interconnect 12 facilities across five metros. The deployment (22 MLX routers, 2,500 10GbE and 1,000 1GbE ports with 100GbE readiness) delivered cost‑effective transparent interconnections, five‑nines reliability with sub‑second RSVP‑TE failover, faster provisioning, terabit LAG capacity for future growth, and a smooth rollout supported by an onsite Brocade engineer.
