A Brocade Case Study
National Container Terminal at King Abdullah Port (KAP) is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s first privately owned port, handling about 1.5 million TEUs today and planned to scale to over 10 million TEUs. The operator and systems integrator 3M+1 needed a highly available, low-latency, and fully virtualizable network to support at least 24 mission‑critical applications (TOS, ERP, automation, sensory, workforce and external systems), real‑time voice/video, massive sensor data, and a clear path to SDN/NFV.
KAP deployed a Brocade-based solution—a containerized mobile data center with MLX core routers (MCT/VRRP‑E), ICX 6650/6450/6610 and FCX switches for distribution/access/DMZ, VDX switches with VCS for storage, ADX application delivery, Vyatta NFV licensing and Brocade Network Advisor for management. The result was high performance and resiliency, simplified operations and visibility, and a future‑proof platform that supports current throughput and scales toward the port’s long‑term SDN/NFV goals.
