Building a SAN for the Next Decade

Halkbank, one of Turkey’s largest banks, faced a growing data‑center challenge: its aging storage infrastructure couldn’t meet spiking I/O demands, energy limits, or the scalability and availability required for mission‑critical services (core banking, CRM, payment processing, analytics and customer channels). The bank needed a more powerful, energy‑efficient SAN that would support active‑active replication, integrate with VMware/SQL/Oracle environments, and scale to meet peak loads with minimal management overhead.

Halkbank deployed Brocade DCX 8510 Gen‑5 backbones, Brocade 7800 Extension Switches for replication, and Brocade Network Advisor to manage two mirrored, active‑active sites 50 meters apart. The new SAN cut infrastructure and cabling, simplified management and migration, reduced congestion with ISLs, and delivered much higher throughput, availability, and energy efficiency—accelerating deployments and providing scalable performance for the next decade.
