A Brocade Case Study
Finansbank, a growing Turkish bank with more than 650 branches and roughly 75 billion TL in assets, was straining its legacy storage area networks as transaction volumes and online services increased. The bank’s open-system SANs had grown to about 3.5 PB and were split across three rooms, creating extensive cabling, intermittent ISL throughput problems, and slow, costly device moves and scaling efforts that limited application availability.
Brocade implemented DCX 8510 backbones with 16 Gbps Gen‑5 Fibre Channel and UltraScale inter‑chassis links in a mesh topology, plus Brocade Network Advisor and Professional Services for migration and training. The new design delivered up to 2 Tbps inter-switch bandwidth, cut inter-switch cabling by about 75% and freed ~33% more ports, improved performance and availability, simplified management and visibility across fabrics, and enabled migration of 900 ports and critical applications in under four months while reducing power, cooling, and space needs.
