A Blazing Fast Open-Standards Foundation for HDTV Delivery

Dansk Kabel TV, a Copenhagen-based broadband and TV provider, expanded rapidly after acquiring ComX in 2013, which doubled its customer base and added a second network. With traffic up 100% over two years and rising HDTV/streaming demand, the company needed to converge, migrate, and upgrade two networks into a carrier-grade, easy-to-manage, scalable infrastructure that would boost capacity and maintain high QoS without disrupting customer services.

Working with Itectra and Brocade, Dansk Kabel TV deployed Brocade NetIron XMR routers for 40 Gbps core routing, ICX 7450 switches for 40 Gbps core–distribution links, ICX 6610 for 10 Gbps aggregation, and ICX 6450/6430 at PoPs. The rollout increased capacity to 40 Gbps routing and 10 Gbps access, supports roughly 70,000 concurrent users, cut service provisioning to about five minutes, improved stability and cost-effective scale-out, and established an open-standards foundation for future SDN services.
