Research In Motion (RIM) needed to replace a cumbersome spreadsheet-based demand planning process that was slowing planning cycles and making it difficult to synchronize globally dispersed demand data. The company also wanted better collaboration with partners and faster response to market fluctuations. Bristlecone was brought in to support the transformation, using SAP APO Demand Planning and related reporting tools.

Bristlecone implemented a multi-phase solution that included consensus forecasting, weekly data snapshots, MARS-based reporting, simulation capabilities, and tighter integration with ERP and carrier forecast feeds. The result was a streamlined, more automated planning process with significantly reduced manual work, better visibility into customer changes, and quicker responses to demand shifts. RIM also achieved improved demand signal accuracy and stronger alignment between demand and supply.
