A BrightSign Case Study
Monterey Bay Aquarium needed to modernize aging, power-hungry signage across its exhibits while coping with a humid, corrosive waterfront environment, signage that must run at least 16 hours a day, and tight nonprofit budgets. BrightSign was chosen in 2010 as the aquarium’s exclusive provider of digital signage players to replace unreliable legacy systems and deliver more immersive, interactive visitor experiences.
BrightSign deployed nearly 150 BrightSign players (including BrightSign HD1020 units), HD cameras feeding live content, a custom iPod Touch controller for narrators, BrightSign software and the BrightSign Network for menu boards, and large-format displays and a 15-foot video wall. The BrightSign solution cut power consumption by as much as 90%, achieved 99.9% uptime while running 24/7 without special enclosures, cost less than half of the previous PC-based system, reduced congestion at popular exhibits, and gave visitors new live access to previously inaccessible viewing areas.
