Trumbull Public School District Saves $864,000 in Energy Spending

Trumbull Public School District, serving more than 7,000 students across one high school, multiple middle and elementary schools and an early childhood center, faced unusually high energy costs—about $2.3 million annually, nearly twice the regional norm—driven by aging boilers, inefficient lighting and outdated controls. Facilities Director Mark Deming needed clear data to justify and prioritize major district-wide upgrades.

Deming implemented Dude Solutions’ Energy Management software to map usage and target the worst-performing buildings, then completed prioritized projects including nine boiler room upgrades, LED retrofits across 850,000 sq ft, seven DDC building management systems, three retro‑commissioning efforts and four PV arrays. In under four years the district saved $864,000, reduced annual energy spending from $2.3M to $1.6M (roughly halving total energy costs to about $840,000 in one comparison), and secured $1.2M in utility incentives, with projects financed by the energy savings.
