The University of Adelaide optimises asset investment planning for 300+ buildings

The University of Adelaide, one of Australia’s oldest universities, manages over 300 buildings across four campuses and needed a robust asset investment plan to balance ageing, specialised facilities and constrained funding — pressures made worse by COVID‑19. Its prior planning relied on opinions rather than evidence, leaving leadership without clear insight into the short-, medium- and long-term impacts of different investment levels.

UoA partnered with Brightly to create a 25‑year Asset Investment Plan using Brightly Predictor and Power BI visualisations to run “What‑If?” scenarios, set target service levels, prioritise buildings and model component renewals. The work identified acceptable short‑term funding reductions, clarified tipping points for business continuity, and has become an integral, data‑driven tool for prioritisation, stakeholder engagement and ongoing refinement of the university’s investment decisions.
