A Brightly Software Case Study
Aberdeenshire Council manages a vast, largely rural area in northern Scotland covering 2,439 square miles and more than 422,000 public-works assets — from 3,400 miles of road and 1,600 bridges to 45,000 streetlights and 70,000 gullies. With maintenance staff spread across 30 locations and multiple legacy systems, the council needed a single platform to consolidate inspections, simplify resident reporting, improve cross-department communication, and better tackle weather- and flood-related risks.
The council deployed Brightly Confirm and Confirm Connect, enabling 70 field inspectors to record asset faults in real time, a public portal for resident reports, and IoT “Smart Gullies” to monitor drainage and flooding hotspots. The solution consolidated disparate software into unified dashboards, broke down departmental siloes for faster joint responses, and created a data-driven gully-cleaning plan that prioritises work, reduces unnecessary truck runs, and improves overall asset management.
