Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) manages vital ecological assets with Brightly strategic asset management

Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) manages 430 hectares of parklands and 158 ecological assets at Sydney Olympic Park, a high‑use urban precinct attracting millions of visitors. SOPA needed a tailored 20‑year strategic asset management approach to restore and sustainably manage complex wetlands, bioretention systems and natural waterways, but lacked the integrated framework, specialist knowledge and data to treat these ecological assets with the same rigour as other civil infrastructure.

Working with Brightly and E2Designlab, a multidisciplinary team audited all 158 assets, developed a strategic asset management framework and used Brightly’s Predictor platform to model funding and intervention options. The project delivered a costed, prioritised maintenance and rectification schedule, concept designs and a 20‑year asset management plan, successfully embedding ecological asset data into SOPA’s broader systems, improving long‑term service delivery, risk control and support for future ESG goals.
