A Brightly Software Case Study
Penn Waste Recycling Center, a Waste Connections facility in York, PA, processes roughly 50 tons per hour (about 420 tons per day) and operates a high‑capacity line with 11 robotic sorters. After a 2022 fire destroyed its equipment and the plant was rebuilt with twice the equipment in the same footprint (growing from 67 to 154 motors and from 6 to 11 optical sorters), the maintenance team faced the challenge of rebuilding preventive‑maintenance schedules, tracking work across shifts, and preserving uptime.
Using Brightly’s Asset Essentials — which Penn Waste has used since 2016 — the team tracks and records all maintenance, accesses historical performance data to tune PM intervals, and documents manufacturer issues that have led to replacement parts outside warranty. The system has driven cost savings and strong reliability (96–98% uptime pre‑fire), and after reopening delivered 91–92% uptime in the first 17 months with a goal of 95% by month 20; another Waste Connections center is now adopting the software.
