A Brightly Software Case Study
Parkland School Division No. 70 in Alberta, Canada — serving about 9,600 students — faced inefficient facility operations that relied on handwritten and call‑in work orders. That paper‑based system prevented a sustainable preventive maintenance program, hindered energy‑conservation efforts, and made coordination across trades and departments difficult as the district opened new buildings.
The district implemented Dude Solutions’ SchoolDude suite (MaintenanceEssentials, UtilityEssentials, event management and Critical Alarm Automation) to automate work orders, build PM schedules from templates, and monitor energy use. As a result nearly 50% of work orders are now preventive, reactive and emergency repairs have dropped, energy costs and billing errors are easier to spot (e.g., a major water leak was quickly identified), and overnight alarm notifications enable faster HVAC responses — improving efficiency and cross‑department communication.
