The City of Olympia needed a better way to manage community development and permitting after struggling with an outdated, hard-to-use system that hurt data integrity and workflows. With Brightly Software’s SmartGov solution, the city set out to move permitting online and create a more reliable digital process for staff and citizens.

Brightly Software implemented SmartGov to support online applications, digital document storage, reporting, and workflow management. The results included about 87% of the city’s 5,300 to 5,500 annual permits being submitted through the portal, improved data integrity, and the ability to keep operations running smoothly during COVID-19. The city also reported 90% to 95% applicant satisfaction with the online portal and significant time savings from reduced data entry.
