The City of Mount Vernon, Washington (pop. ~35,000) struggled with fragmented operations spread across spreadsheets, a limited server-based system and email, leaving facilities and permitting teams reactive, lacking preventive maintenance or a facility renewal plan, and delivering inconsistent customer service.
By adopting Brightly’s maintenance and SmartGov community development software, Mount Vernon centralized records, enabled mobile inspections and online permitting/payments, and built a facility renewal plan. Results included stronger record management and customer transparency, a facility budget increase from $50K to $500K, over 90% of transactions online, more efficient inspections and the ability to continue full remote service—including virtual inspections—during COVID-19.
