A Brightly Software Case Study
Nottingham City Council’s Cemeteries and Crematorium team was facing a growing workload — handling nearly 200 Public Health funerals a year for a population of around 330,000 — alongside a rise in Freedom of Information requests. The service relied on handwritten notes, spreadsheets and bulky paper files, making case management slow, labour-intensive and difficult to access when key staff were absent.
The council adapted its existing Brightly Confirm digital asset management solution (already used by Highways) to automate workflows, digitise records and provide real‑time tracking of funeral applications. The change enabled “click‑of‑a‑button” FOI responses, faster end‑to‑end case processing, significantly reduced paper dependency and freed up resources, with plans to extend Confirm to other assets such as bridges and cemetery plots.
