How Data Share is helping Boston Public Schools create a transparent and responsible public facilities maintenance

Boston Public Schools is a large metropolitan district serving more than 48,000 students across 125 buildings (about 11.5 million square feet) with 583 facilities staff. Facing its first district-wide facilities condition assessment in 2022, BPS needed a way to continuously monitor building conditions, prioritize short- and long-term projects, justify budget requests, and make facility data accessible both internally and to the public.

BPS adopted Data Share to gather, analyze, and track FCA data, which Brian Forde Jr. and his team use daily to set KPIs, prioritize work, and optimize preventive maintenance. The platform simplified infrastructure decisions with data-backed insights, reduced costs and emergency repairs, strengthened funding requests, and delivered a public dashboard that increased transparency and community engagement.
