Department of Education, Tasmania justifying future funding & strategic success

The Department of Education (DoE) Tasmania, responsible for an AUD $3.1 billion asset portfolio spanning 250+ schools, libraries and child care centres, needed to ensure its community facilities were maintained and preserved so future risks to service delivery could be managed, costed and mitigated. Faced with the need to justify funding and present evidence-based priorities—especially when a COVID-19 stimulus submission was anticipated—the DoE required clear, defensible asset data and reporting to support strategic decisions.

DoE Tasmania partnered with Brightly and used Brightly’s Predictor platform to target data collection, assess teaching spaces and high-risk areas (like bathrooms) in granular detail, and produce interactive dashboards and usable reports within a month of data collection finishing. The approach delivered a meaningful four-year strategic asset plan (with 25+ year planning visibility), removed political bias from project selection, and helped secure AUD $16.5 million in additional COVID-19 stimulus funding over four years.
