City of Delano Speeds Up Permitting and Gets Council’s Approval

The City of Delano, CA, was facing a crippling permitting backlog after its legacy permit-tracking system lost support. Manual workarounds produced 181-day wait times, lost correspondence, constant phone complaints, and frustrated staff and customers.

Delano implemented SmartGov, a centralized cloud-based platform for permitting, licensing, inspections and code enforcement with GIS, automated issuance, reminders and cross-department workflows. Launched in 2014, the solution cut permit wait times from 181 days to three–ten days, reduced phone calls by about 70%, enabled issuing 14 permits in 45 minutes, improved accountability and collaboration, and helped the city win council approval and attract larger development projects.
